Introducing Miranda
Hi! I am very excited for this website and to be a part of such a wonderful project! I am the mom of 2 awesome kids and wife of the “world’s greatest” husband. We are working on adding to our family through adoption.
We began to research adoption over 4 years ago and decided that we should do foster care to prepare us for adoption. My husband wasn’t entirely convinced at the time and wanted to “see” how things would work. I wonder now if he thought I’d get discouraged and change my mind. God had His plans for us and had planted the seed of desire in me, and soon, my husband. We called our local Child Protection Office to inquire and they told us about a class starting the following week nearby. Instead of having time to think about this, we jumped in and signed up immediately. The class we took to obtain our foster care license is called P.R.I.D.E. It is an acronym for Parent Resource for Information, Development, and Education. My husband and I attended 8, 3 hour classes and learned more than we had imagined. This class was very informative and after the first few classes, my husband agreed that, yes, we needed to foster and ultimately adopt.
We have had over 15 children stay in our home for periods of several hours to over a year. We have learned to love, to care, to share and to lose. We have had some of our children who have left stay in foster care until they “aged” out, meaning they turned 18 and were emancipated from the system. Some have gone home to their parents which can be “great” or “not so great” for the children. Luckily for the children we have cared for, there have been more children return home to “great” situations than “not so great” situations. Some children have been able to leave the foster system and live with relatives. They have also gone on to remain in the foster care system. One child may move on to adoption and is currently living with the family who wants to adopt her. We have mourned the losses of even the most difficult child, as have our 2 children. Foster care has been bitter sweet.
My husband and I have had the fortune to travel to the country, Haiti, and volunteer for an orphanage for a week. It was the greatest experience in my life. I could look at pictures and watch movies about the poverty in Haiti, but those things are nothing compared to the impact of my personal experience of actually being there. I was able to see mothers and fathers who travelled to Haiti to visit their children. I saw their excitement to see their children and their despair to part with them. These children must remain in Haiti until their paperwork goes through all the government approvals. It completely broke my heart to see this. My mind is still working through all of the emotions Haiti has stirred in me; however, my husband and I do hope to adopt from Haiti someday.
We are faithful that God is in control and will guide us to our children who have already been born on this earth. I am so grateful for my Savior and all that He gives us. I cannot even begin to express the gratefulness that I feel to have been born into this great and wonderful church that has received the fullness of the Gospel. I am grateful for my husband and the 2 wonderful children we have been entrusted to care for so far and for all of our future children. I am very excited to be included on this website with all the wonderful women who are also writing and sharing their experiences in adoption.
